On a sun-soaked May 10, we had our PPU Annual Family Day in Kenilworth Square.
After an invite from the Union to both the Senior and Junior schools, as well as Ardtona House School, we had record numbers for a day that boasted something for everyone.
Entertainment for young and old alike included live music, a pop-up zoo, face painting, a magic show, bouncing castles and displays from the Cubs and Scouts set up by Dan Carvill.
Everyone was kept well fed and watered with Paul Opperman running his delicious BBQ, a Teddy’s ice cream van, tea & coffee from the scouts as well as various artisan stands.
The seven-a-side soccer tournament was keenly contested by eight teams, including two from the school. The final was a closely-fought contest between one of the 6th-year teams against the 1996 side.
Despite none of the school team being born when the class of 1996 left St. Mary’s, it was a closely fought battle. In the end, the school team just edged it on penalties and were presented the trophy by Daragh.
The family day is a fantastic event and continues to go from strength to strength. We will have a few additional surprises and events up our sleeve for next year.
Looking forward to seeing you and your families in Kenilworth Square in May 2016. Marcus Spring (2002)
