Family Day 2014

On a showery day in Kenilworth Square the Annual Family / 7 aside soccer day took place. Gareth Halpin sent an invitation to the event, to the parents of the junior school, to enjoy the St. Marys family day. As a result a record numbers of families turned up to join in a family day of fun.

Dublin Falconry put on another great show exhibiting all types of Owls, Eagles and Falcons in an entertaining show flying above Kenilworth Square. Arthur Mcevoy (1983) organised an underage place kicking competition, which lent a competitive edge to the afternoon.

The 7-a-side soccer tournament was keenly contested by 6 teams from years 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2010. Despite the conditions, there was some excellent football on display. The round robin stage finished after every team had played each other with the top two teams, 2005 and 2002, competing for the coveted trophy. After a closely fought final, the reigning champions 2005 edged it 2-1.

As with every Year, Paul and Peter Opperman fed the crowds and soccer teams with his bar-b-que and the Ice Cream truck did great business for the afternoon. The St. Marys Scout Unit led by Dan Carvil, set up a model camp and was at hand to recruit new members and leaders. Even the 4th Year transition students held a Cake Sales for Ghana. The family day is a great event and is well attended each year, so please continue to support it in Kenilworth Square in May 2015.
