President's Message

Dear Past Pupil,

On behalf of the Committee, I would like to welcome you all to the September edition of SAMACORA News.

Firstly, I would like to thank my predecessor, Colin Smyth (1992), (the third-generation Smyth President) for both nominating me but, most importantly, for his leadership of the Union over the last 12 months.

It is such an honour for me to take over this chain of office and follow in the footsteps of many great Presidents.

I am very lucky to have a talented, enthusiastic and diverse Committee to assist with all that goes with running the Union and I am really looking forward to the year ahead.

I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome my Vice President, David McCormack. He is thoroughly deserved of this nomination having previously served as Honorary Secretary as well as recently serving as a loyal committee member.

November is a key month in our calendar.

The Memorial Mass for Deceased Pupils, Past Pupils and Members of the Teaching Staff takes place in the Fr Barry Hall on Sunday, November 6th at 11am. This is a very special occasion and all are welcome.

On 18th November the Annual Dinner will take place in the Fr Barry Hall. Booking details will be issued shortly. Several groups are celebrating significant “years out” so we are expecting strong numbers again this year.

After Christmas, we will have the Table Quiz, Business Functions, Golf Outing and the Family Day, in Kenilworth Square. More details on these events will be released closer to the time.

We cannot operate and support various causes without funding. The annual subscription to be a member of the Union is €40 and I would encourage those of you who are not members to take a few moments to sign up.

Direct Debits and standing orders will be processed shortly. Every year we incur significant costs due to bounced payments. If you have recently changed banking details please contact our Honorary Membership Secretary Brian McEniff to advise (

I look forward to meeting you at our various events.

Kind regards

Con Tiernan (1982)
